Senate to investigate cults, beliefs

Senators have approved the formation of an 11-member ad hoc committee to undertake investigations in to the deaths of more than 100 people linked to cultic religious beliefs.

This even as some Senators recommended that the team should consider making stringent regulations for the religious denominations, sects and activities.

The 11-member team will comprise of Senate Minority leader Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi), Hillary Sigei (Bomet), Richard Onyonka (Kisii), Eddy Oketch (Migori), Abdul Haji (Garissa), William Cheptumo (Baringo), David Wakoli (Bungoma), Tabitha Mutinda, Veronica Maina, Shakila Mohammed and Hamida Kibwana (nominated). The motion was tabled before the House by Senate Majority Whip Dr Boni Khalwale (Kakamega).
