Senate tell MPs to set up team to address generation-z issues
A Senator wants the lawmakers to establish a nine-member team to look into the grievances of the ‘Gen Z’ following widespread rage and protests across the country.
Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa in his proposed motion wants the team to investigate the circumstances leading to the widespread demonstrations and to examine the emerging generational shifts, challenges, fears, and expectations to inform appropriate policy interventions.
Thang’wa, a first-time Senator argues that Generation Z was not included in the recently concluded national dialogue, which resulted in various proposals currently under legislative consideration.

He now wants youthful Senators himself, Edwin Sifuna (Nairobi), John Methu (Nyandarua), Eddy Oketch (Migori), Samson Cherargei (Nandi), Raphael Chimera, Gloria Orwoba, Catherine Mumma and Crystal Asige (all nominated) also to audit the legal and legislative framework for youth empowerment and involvement in governance and management of state affairs.
“The Senate resolves that an Ad-hoc Committee be established to develop policy and legislative proposals on youth empowerment and involvement in governance and management of state affairs,” said Thang’wa in his proposed motion.
He went on: “Pursuant to Standing Order 199, this Senate resolves to establish an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate the governance concerns raised by young demonstrators, particularly those of the “Generation Z” cohort, and the circumstances leading to the recent widespread demonstrations.”
