By , October 11, 2023

The Senate is pushing to formulate a legislative framework that seeks to cushion ideas and innovations by youth as a strategy to grow the creative economy.

Speaking in Mombasa, Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang said the legal framework will ensure local innovations and their values are protected for the benefit of the youth. Chesang is also the chair of the ICT Committee of the Senate.

“Our youth have skills and talents but you will find that sometimes the talents don’t end up benefiting them,” Chesang noted.

Annual event

He was speaking during the closing ceremony of the week-long fourth edition of the annual Pwani Innovation Week at the Swahili Pot Hub, Mombasa, where he asked the government to support and replicate a similar annual event in every county.

The Digital Innovation Week organised by the Swahili pot hub showcases and celebrates milestones in the country’s digital innovation ecosystem.
