Senate begins oversight visit on ECDE and VTC projects in Narok County
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, May 18, 2026The Senate Committee on Education is starting an oversight visit in Narok County to review the implementation and status of the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centre (VTC) programmes in the county.
Taking it to their Facebook account on Monday, May 18, 2026, the parliament of Kenya has noted that the committee leaders visited Narok governor Patrick Keturet Ole Ntutu on a courtesy call on Monday before the official commencement of the inspection exercise to assess the devolved education services.
“The Senate Committee on Education today arrived in Narok County, where they paid a courtesy call on H.E. Governor Patrick Keturet Ole Ntutu ahead of the commencement of the Committee’s oversight visit on the implementation status of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) within the county,” the Parliament statement read in part.

Focus of monitoring exercise
The visit is part of the ongoing countywide monitoring exercise of devolved education functions by the Senate Committee, which will particularly focus on the state of ECDE centres and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under county governments.
“The oversight exercise forms part of the committee’s ongoing assessment of devolved education functions across counties. During the visit, the committee will evaluate the status of learning facilities, infrastructure development, and service delivery within ECDE and TVET institutions as part of its broader county inspection programme,” the statement added.

During the encounter, the parliament stated that the senators are supposed to visit learning facilities, gauge infrastructure development projects and evaluate service delivery quality in ECDE and vocational training institutions in the county.
The committee will also review the accessibility of teaching and learning resources, staffing, classroom conditions and the preparedness of institutions for quality education and skills development for children.
As part of activities to enhance service delivery and accountability in the devolved education functions in Narok County, the oversight exercise is anticipated to give the Senate firsthand information on the progress, challenges and gaps in devolved education functions in the county.
