Salary cuts now reach UoN

By , April 29, 2020

University of Nairobi (UoN) vicechancellor Prof Stephen Kiama (pictured) has asked all staff to sign voluntary salary cut forms in response to Covid-19 outbreak.

In circular to all staff, Kiama said the fund would help in cushioning Kenyans against its spread, effects and impacts.

“The directives include voluntary salary cuts for government officials beginning with myself,” he said.

Kiama said as per President Uhuru Kenyatta policy, the cut would be for an initial duration of three months with effect from April.

“The period of voluntary salary cuts shall signify their consent by completing a standard form and the percentage deduction shall be applied on the net package after statutory deductions,” he said.

Kiama appeal comes days after UoN drafted proposals, which include shielding employees from being fired.
