‘Bure kabisa!’ – Ruto scoffs at Raila for criticising his efforts to seek jobs abroad

President William Ruto has hit out at Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga for criticising his efforts to seek jobs abroad.

Speaking to residents in Nkubu, Meru county on Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Head of State told off the opposition chief for criticizing his efforts and maintained that the government will still proceed with the plan whether he rallies against him or not.

The president also wondered why the Azimio leader was against the move when it was meant to eradicate joblessness in the country.

Naskia mtu ya kitendawili anasema ati nisipeleke wakenya wafanye kazi ngambo kwani anataka wafanye kazi mahali gani? Nimemuuliza hutaki waende ngambo waende wapi…ati anapanga maandamano, kwani maandamano ni mahali mtu anaeza enda kufanya kazi? Si hio ni upumbavu ama ni ujinga ama ni yote mbili. Bure kabisa!” Ruto said.

He further called on all leaders to join in the course and help the jobless youths secure employment.

Last month, Raila told off the president over his plans to seek jobs abroad.

The opposition chief disagreed with the Head of State saying it is the responsibility of the government to create jobs in the country.

“Government officers themselves including a whole president including a whole president, openly saying that they are trying to get jobs abroad for Kenyans. It is the responsibility of the government to create jobs in the country, not to look for jobs outside,” Raila said.

While scoffing at the government, Raila stated that the move will erase the dignity and pride of the country.

“Today, our people are scrambling to leave the country. A recent study by Pew Research showed that up to 54 percent of Kenyans would wish to relocate from the country,” Raila stated.

“Young people with the new skills and knowledge that we need are being exported because the government cannot create jobs. Once upon a time, Kenyans were too proud and so confident in their nation that they refused to seek jobs abroad, including with the UN,” he added.
