Ruto reaffirms his commitment to restoring equity for all Kenyans
President William Ruto has reiterated his commitment to restoring equity in the country.
Speaking during the burial of Mzee King Mwaruwa, father to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi in Kilifi on Friday, February 21, 2025, Ruto affirmed his commitment to engaging leaders at national level to enhance equity in the country.
“I am committed and unapologetic about making sure there is equity in the republic of Kenya, tutashirikiana, tutafanya bidi kuhakikisha kuna usawa katika taifa letu, kuna wengi wetu wanapata hasira, hamaki kwamba tunafatuta usawa, nataka kusema poleni lakini usawa tutatafuta,”
In the same breath, the president justified his decision to abolish the vetting process for residents in North Eastern Kenya.

He expressed that the decision still stands as it is aimed at ensuring that all citizens are treated equally.
“It is not that IDs will be handed out randomly, there is a procedure that must be be followed. However, all Kenyans must be treated equally.
“We cannot have two sets of laws for Kenyans. All Kenyans are equal and must be treated the same way,” he added.

The president’s remarks comes over jitters in the political sphere over his decision on ID vetting.
Leaders, particularly those in the opposition, have continued to express their dissatisfaction with his choice stating that it is part of his gameplan to manipulate the 2027 presidential election.
While the opposition continues to voice a dissenting voice over the decision, those in government continue to laud and emphasise the president for the decision which they say promotes equity in the country, which is part of the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
