President William Ruto has announced that the government will provide 100 per cent education scholarships for students pursuing higher learning.

Speaking in Vihiga where he had gone to commission the Vihiga Last Mile Water Supply Project in Mbale, Sabatia Constituency on Saturday, July 22, 2023, the Head of State noted that his administration has reached a mutual agreement with various education stakeholders to ensure that students pursuing higher learning get full scholarships.

“Watoto wenu ambao wanaenda kwa technical training college na wenye wanaenda university, tumekua na shida kubwa kwamba mauniveristy wako na shida ya madeni. Hio madeni nimeketi chini na vice chancellors wote na tumekubaliana mfumo mpya ya kuhakikisha ya kwamba watoto wetu wote wakienda university wanapata scholarship.

“Tunabadilisha sio grant tena kwa university in scholarship kwa kila mwanafunzi ndo tuhakikishe mtoto wa mama mboga, boda boda na mtu ambaye yuko chini tunampatia 100 percent scholarship, mtoto wangu na musalia tunawapatia scholarship ya 20 ama 30 percent,” he stated.

The President also assured residents that the government was taking key measures to upgrade the education sector and ensure that every child is educated. Ruto stated that the government had allocated billions in the education sector so as to facilitate conducive learning for all learners.

“We are going to make sure that every child who goes to school has an opportunity to learn,” he stated.

In the same breath, the president promised to address the high food costs by lowering the costs of fertilisers.

He stated that the government intends to lower the cost f fertiliser from Ksh3,500 to Ksh2,500.

“Unga haitoki kwa soko, inatoka kwa shamba. Kama unataka kutatua tatizo la unga enda shambani. Ata ukieka sufuria kwa kichwa ufanye maandamano bei ya unga itashuka? si hio ni upuzi. Ndo niliwaambia tutapunguza gharama ya mbegu ya mbolea. Mbolea mlikua mnanunua na elfu saba nmerudisha mpaka elfu tatu na mia tano na hio 3,500 bado nitapunguza mpaka 2,500 after two weeks,”
