Ruto now writes to IG over Echesa fraud case

Deputy President William Ruto has asked Inspector General (IG) of police Hillary Mutyambai to investigate how former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and three foreigners accessed his office in relation to the ongoing fake military tender case.

Through his Chief of Staff Ken Osinde, Ruto said there was a ‘serious’ breach of security which he wants probed.

“On Thursday, February 13, a Mr. Rashid Echesa and some strangers entered the Deputy President’s waiting room at Harambee Annex 2nd floor. This incident is very serious breach of the security of the Deputy President and requires a thorough forensic investigation,” read the letter written by DP’s office to Mutyambai.

In the letter, the DP want’s Mutyambai to investigate how, Echesa in the company of two foreigners (Mamdouh Amir and Kozlowski Bruno) accessed his office and the security officers who facilitated their entry.

Also, the DP has asked the IG to hold the foreigners in the country until investigations are done.

Echesa was arrested on Thursday February 13 by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives over over Sh40 billion fake military tender.

He was arraigned Friday morning at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) court.

Echesa and his co-accussed were released on Monday on Sh1 million cash bail each.
