Ruto mourns death of Makadara Principal Magistrate, speaks out against attack
President William Ruto has mourned the death of the slain Makadara Law Court Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti who was shot in the courtroom.
In a statement on Monday, June 17, 2024, Ruto condemned the incident, stating that it is unacceptable, criminal, and an affront to the rule of law to attack, confront, or threaten the judicial officers.
Ruto added that what happened to Magistrate Kivuti should never happen again.
“I join the family, friends, and the judicial fraternity in mourning the tragic death of Monica Kivuti who was serving as the Principal Magistrate of the Makadara Courts,” he said. 
“The confrontation, threats, or attacks of any form against judicial officers is unacceptable, criminal, and an affront to the rule of law. What happened to Kivuti is unacceptable; it should never happen again.”
Condoling the family, Ruto described the slain magistrate as a hardworking judicial professional who served Kenyans with dedication.
“We have lost a firm and hardworking judicial professional who served Kenyans with dedication. She still had a lot to offer to our country. I pray that the Almighty God grants you strength to bear this loss and comforts you with divine solace. Rest In Peace, Hon. Kivuti,” Ruto mourned.

Orders to police
Ruto while speaking against the attack asked the police officers to ensure the safety of the judicial officers always as they discharge their duties.
“I ask the police to ensure the safety of our judicial officers at all times as they discharge their duties,” Ruto said.
Ruto further stated that the police are mandated to ensure safety and reliable security adding that under no circumstances should the officer abandon this essential obligation or ever turn from their duty of protection and become threats to the safety and security of the people. 
“The Police exists to assure Kenyans of reliable security. Under no circumstances should they abandon this essential obligation or ever turn from their duty of protection and become threats to the safety and security of the people,” he said.
