Ruto leaves Kasarani women in stitches during First Lady’s event
By Kiprono Keileb, November 27, 2025President William Ruto has left hundreds of women in stitches at Kasarani Stadium after humorously referring to himself as ‘Mr Rachel’, while attending an event led by First Lady Rachel Ruto on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The gathering, which brought together women from across the country, celebrated milestones achieved through women’s empowerment and long-running community initiatives championed by the First Lady.
Speaking at the event, President Ruto began by acknowledging that he was not the main host of the day’s programme, a remark that quickly warmed up the crowd.

His lighthearted comment drew laughter and cheers from women seated across the stadium, with many appreciating the playful tone coming from the Head of State. But beyond the joke, the President used his platform to commend the First Lady for her long-standing commitment to women’s welfare and economic growth.
In his message, he praised her dedication and the years she has spent supporting women’s groups and grassroots initiatives.

Women’s group growth
The President noted that the women’s groups had been steadily growing since their inception 16 years ago, impacting hundreds of thousands of women through savings programmes, mentorship, credit systems and entrepreneurship training.
He acknowledged the effort put in by all the women involved, praising the network’s resilience and commitment over the years.

Ruto’s presence, coupled with his humorous introduction, added a warm and personal tone to the celebrations. The President committed his support for the First Lady’s initiatives in supporting women.
