Ruto launches Ksh860M Busia road, Ksh130M Budalang’i market projects
President William Ruto has launched the construction of a Ksh860 million, 13-kilometer Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road in Busia County.
The project, launched on Monday, March 16, 2026, will link Funyula and Budalang’i constituencies.
Taking to X page, Ruto said the project is aimed at unlocking trade and economic opportunities in the region by improving access to markets and easing the movement of goods and people.
“For many years, Kenya’s development was slowed by leadership that lacked vision. That era is behind us. Today, we are moving the country forward with deliberate investments in critical sectors, ensuring that no part of our nation is left behind,” Ruto said in a post.

He added that the government is now focusing on deliberate investments in key sectors to ensure that development reaches every part of the country.
“Launched the construction of the 13-kilometre Nangina–Sio Port–Okados–Mundere Road in Busia County, a KSh860 million project that will link Funyula and Budalang’i constituencies and unlock trade and economic activity across the region,” Ruto said.
Budalang’i Modern Market
In addition, the President laid the foundation stone for the Budalang’i Modern Market, a Sh130 million project meant to give traders better working conditions.
According to Ruto, the market will provide a safe, dignified, and well-equipped place for trading. This will especially help women and young entrepreneurs in the area.

“Also laid the foundation stone for the Budalang’i Modern Market, a KSh130 million investment that fulfills our commitment to provide hardworking traders, particularly women and young people, with a safe, dignified, and well-equipped place to do business,” Ruto said.
Ruto’s Western Visit
On Monday, March 16, President William Ruto began a five-day development tour of the Western Kenya region, starting with the inspection of infrastructure projects in Kakamega County.
The president arrived in the county on Sunday evening, where he assessed the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion works at Kakamega Airstrip.

Ruto said the upgrade of the airstrip is expected to enhance regional air connectivity and spur economic growth.
During his western tour, the president is scheduled to review development projects and engage local leaders and residents on the government’s economic agenda.
