Ruto hails partnerships between Kenya and US after Washington trip

President William Ruto has described his recent engagements in Washington, D.C. as a defining milestone in the long-standing partnership between Kenya and the United States.

Ruto has expressed deep gratitude to President Donald Trump and his administration for what he termed exceptional hospitality and renewed commitment to strategic cooperation.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 6, 2025, after the bilateral discussions, President Ruto said the consultations were productive and represented a watershed moment in the long, strategic friendship between the two nations.

He emphasised that the visit reaffirmed the shared resolve of both governments to chart a bold and mutually beneficial path for the coming years.

”I extend my profound gratitude to President Donald Trump
and the Government of the United States for the generous hospitality accorded to our delegation in Washington, D.C. Our engagements were not only productive, they equally marked a watershed moment in the long, strategic friendship between our two nations,” Ruto said via X.

Boost for health cooperation

President Ruto highlighted a strengthened partnership in the health sector, noting that Kenya and the United States had agreed on new measures to improve disease surveillance, expand primary healthcare, and accelerate the adoption of advanced medical technologies.

According to the President, these commitments are poised to “save lives, uplift communities, and accelerate Kenya’s journey toward universal health coverage.” The focus on technology and capacity-building marks a significant step in fortifying Kenya’s public health systems.

Trade, investment, and digital transformation

The Kenyan head of state also expressed optimism about the economic outcomes of the discussions, citing progress in unlocking new value chains, improving market access, and stimulating African manufacturing. He praised the Trump administration’s readiness to invest in Kenya’s digital economy, infrastructure, and green-energy transition.

These investments, Ruto noted, signal “a new era of shared prosperity” and will play a central role in creating jobs for Kenya’s growing youth population while enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.

Commitment to regional peace and security

On matters of regional stability, President Ruto lauded the United States for its unwavering support in promoting peace and security across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region. He described the joint discussions on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict resolution as encouraging and pivotal to safeguarding regional stability.

”In peace and security, I commend the United States’ steadfast support and resolve for stability across the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region. Our discussions on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict resolution were encouraging and reaffirm that when Kenya and the United States act together, the region becomes more secure, stable, and prosperous.,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Ruto has affirmed Kenya’s commitment to ensuring that all agreements made during the Washington visit are fully implemented, adding that Nairobi aims to elevate the partnership into “one of the most consequential and impactful on the continent.”
