Ruto appoints Former IG Joseph Boinnet as Deputy National Security Advisor

President William Ruto has appointed former Inspector General (IG) of police Joseph Boinnet as Deputy National Security Advisor.

According to a Gazette notice dated Thursday, March 9, 2023, Boinnet’s appointment was done in accordance with the National Security Council Act.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed—Joseph Boinnet to be the Deputy National Security Advisor,” the notice reads in parts.

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Monica Juma was also appointed as the Secretary of the National Security Council.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the National Security Council has appointed Monica K. Juma to be the Secretary of the National Security Council,” the notice added.

Boinnet had previously contested for the Elgeyo Marakwet gubernatorial position in the 2022 elections.

Prior to that, he had resigned after serving as Tourism Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS)during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

He served as the police IG before he was appointed as CAS.
