President William Ruto has called for urgent support ahead of police deployment to Haiti for a peacekeeping mission.

Speaking during the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy on Friday, June 14, 2024, Ruto challenged the G7 countries to expedite their support for Kenya police officers in their bid to quell violence in the Caribbean nation.

Through necessary reforms, the Head of State told various world leaders that graced the summit, that Kenya can help Haiti regain its peace and co-existence.

"In every collective endeavour, let us scale up the benefits of a G7-Africa partnership to reach and transform every part of the world. This is why Kenya calls on the G7 to urgently support the multinational security support mission to Haiti," Ruto stated.

Ruto argued that Kenya will stand a chance in helping Haiti end gang violence if it gets unwavering support from the global community.

According to President Ruto, the togetherness will not only help Haiti but also other nations dogged by various issues.

"Guided by the wisdom of an African proverb, "When spiders combine their webs they can tie up a lion", we in Africa recognize that collective action is our only way forward.

"This is why the continent's leaders are united in developing and implementing bold, solution-driven actions to confront both continental and global challenges. By combining the spider webs of the AU and the G7, we can effectively tie up prevailing global challenges," Ruto emphasised.

Deployment to take place in weeks

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, Ruto assured the country and other nations of his commitment to police deployment in Haiti. While speaking during a church service in Nakuru, Ruto announced that the deployment would take place in the coming weeks.

“We have a very blessed nation that is being depended on by foreign nations as well, People from Sudan, and DRC are waiting on Kenya to assist them.
