Ruku: Ruto has no intention to rig election, will win fairly
By William Muthama, July 20, 2025Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has assured Kenyans that President William Ruto has no intention of rigging the 2027 General Election, insisting he will win fairly and squarely at the ballot.
Speaking after attending Mass at Regina Caeli Parish in Karen on Sunday, July 20, 2025, Ruku urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to expedite the rollout of necessary frameworks and infrastructure to ensure a transparent election.
Ruku dismissed claims made by a section of politicians suggesting the ruling coalition is planning to manipulate the upcoming polls, describing such remarks as irresponsible and misleading.
“Let it be clear President William Ruto has no interest in any form of election malpractice. He believes in the people’s will and is ready to face the 2027 contest honourably,” he said.

“We already have the IEBC in place, and we are urging the chairman and his team to begin putting structures together. Kenyans deserve a credible election,” Ruku added.
IEBC support
He noted that the government, through Parliament, will ensure the commission receives sufficient financial support to execute its mandate independently and professionally.
“The government is committed to supporting the IEBC with all the resources they require to deliver a free, fair, and democratic election,” he said.
The CS also challenged political leaders to respect institutions mandated to run elections and to avoid undermining public trust with reckless statements.
“Spreading fear and propaganda does not help our democracy. Leaders must be accountable and measured in their words,” he said.
Ruku’s remarks follow a viral video of Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow claiming that North Eastern MPs were ready to do “whatever it takes” to secure a Ruto win even suggesting vote theft. The comments sparked outrage, prompting calls for disciplinary action and clarification from the ruling coalition.
With political temperatures rising ahead of 2027, Ruku’s public defence of President Ruto appears aimed at restoring confidence in Kenya’s democratic systems and the integrity of future elections.
