Robert Alai proposes overhaul of State House security after officer’s death

By , October 13, 2025

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai has proposed an overhaul of the State House security following an incident where a man attacked and killed a police constable outside one of the gates of the heavily guarded residence.

In a statement on his X page on Monday, October 13, 2025, Alai called for equipping the officers tasked with guarding the official residence of the president.

According to Alai, arming the officers who are exclusively responsible for providing close protection and security to the president, state houses, official lodges, and other high-level government assets with a mere AK-47 rifle should be reconsidered.

Overhaul

“Security at State House needs to be immediately overhauled. Those officers need to be armed properly. You can’t have ATPU armed and paid better than presidential guards. Arming G-Company officers with AK-47s only should be changed,” he said.

He further proposed that the specialised unit of the GSU force be in protective armour.

“They must wear body armour all the time. Those officers are too exposed. This must change,” he added.
