Former Prime Minister and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has urged the youth to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying it is the best avenue of restoring Kenya on track.
Raila said the youth, who form over 70 per cent of the country’s population, have a chance to better their future by endorsing the nine-point agenda as outlined in the BBI document.
“With this document in place, our young population will benefit from its fruits.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and I, are committed to leave a united country where every Kenyan has an opportunity to realise his or her dream, ” Raila said during a virtual conference, Monday evening.
Raila reiterated that the initiative is informed by the vision of ‘founding fathers’, whose dream was to have a united, peaceful and prosperous nation.
He said his talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta centred on unifying Kenyans and ensuring that the dream of peace and prosperity is achieved.
Raila urged the youth to rise above the ethnic beliefs and divisions, urging them to focus on issues which are constructive and development oriented. He said time has come for the youthful population to take up key leadership roles, reiterating that their innovative ideas are significant in shaping the country’s governance.
The conference was organized by the Young Turks Handshake Alliance (YTHA), whose agenda is to popularise the document.
YTHA co-ordinator Zack Kinuthia said the group will sensitise the youth on the need to read and understand the document before making their independent decisions.
