Rift Valley clergy demand money from politicians

A section of clergy from the Rift Valley has protested alleged marginalization by politicians giving money through church harambees.
In a press briefing whose video is circulating online, the clergy demands a share of the national cake from the Kieleweke and Tangatanga political groups.
“The question we are asking here in Rift Valley is when will our day come? Are there no churches here in Rift Valley that can also be gifted?” Says their leader.
The clergy demands a share of the ‘thing’ going around. The men of collar insist that the central Kenya region has been over-visited and cites that as the reason behind the chaos between church leaders and politicians.
“In Rift Valley, we also have churches construction going on… it is very unfair that Central Kenya churches have been given more than they can handle and that is why violence is now being witnessed in churches there” Said their spokesperson.
The clergy demands the money ahead of the September 30 deadline. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) issued a deadline that will close legal tendering of the thousand shillings note. The clergymen believe that the politicians are hastily distributing the money to beat the CBK deadline.
Recent Sundays have been characterized by chaos in some churches as different political alignments clash with their opponents.
The most recent incidence was in Muranga where Kiharu Mp Ndindi Nyoro clashed with nominated MP Maina Kamanda at Gitui Catholic Church. Chaos emanated when Nyoro refused to be introduced to the congregation by an MP from Nairobi while at his home constituency.
The ugly incidence left the police hunting for Nyoro who was later arrested.
Catholic Bishop in charge of Mt.Kenya Diocese James Maria later ordered his clergy to bar politicians from church harambees.
