Retrain university dons for appraisals,VC urges

University dons have expressed the need for lecturers to undergo refresher training to equip them with new aspects of teaching.

Speaking at the launch of the Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE), KCA University vice-chancellor Prof Isaiah Kindiki said lack of training for dons has been identified as the cause for mismatch in content dissemination to university students.

Kindiki said that the re-skilling exercise is aimed at improving teaching standards at technical institutions.

“We need to train our lecturers. Most of them despite having the expertise they still have challenges over how they should present their lessons. Just as the way the government is organising training for teachers in the roll-out of competence based curriculum, we should see the same replicated to universities,” he said.

He said in the early learning and basic education sector, teachers are required to have undergone training, but that’s not the case for universities.
