Religious leaders in Murang’a push for constructive debate

Religious leaders have urged the political leaders in the country to engage in positive and constructive debates instead of destructive political sideshows.

The leaders expressed their concern that the kind of national politics currently playing around might cause unrest among the people and trigger chaos.

George Mbiruri, a member of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) said if the leaders focus so much on politics, they will not be able to deliver services to the people.

Speaking during a public engagement forum in Murang’a County, Mbiruri said the leaders should focus on addressing the issues affecting the common person and provide possible solutions.

“We have issues such as the economy, unemployment among the youth, education, health among others that we would like addressed, the issue of who takes which position is not of concern to us,” said Mbiruri.

“If the politicians have differences amongst them, they should have a round table meeting and sort them away from the public,” he added.

He said the religious leaders under a program dubbed mulika have been holding a series of public forums to get views from people on governance and the changes they would like to see in leadership.

Alhaji Bakari representing the Muslim community on his part said the leaders ought to have platforms where they can be engaging with the members of the public for the latter to raise their matters of concern.
