Release regulations on JSS transition to avert confusion, State told

By , December 15, 2022

Elimu Yetu Coalition (EYC) has urged the government to provide comprehensive guidelines on transitioning to Junior Secondary School (JSS) as soon as possible.

The EYC National Coordinator Joseph Wasikhongo yesterday said with just a month to the start of the new school calendar, Kenyans need to understand how implementation of JSS will be done, now that it has been domiciled in primary schools.

He said the guidelines will go a long way in averting confusion in the sector, as schools resume for the 2023 calendar on January 23. Wasikhongo at the same time called for coordination between the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms on critical policy pronouncements.

“The ministry needs to provide guidelines to inform transition to Junior Secondary Schools. There is need for rigorous participatory processes during this period and effectively harmonise processes to avoid creating confusion in the sector,” said Wasikhongo.

He was speaking during a Civil Society Organisation public forum on the status of education

Wasikhongo. He, however, appreciated efforts Government has made in the sector.
