Release funds before schools re-open, head teachers tell government

Head teachers yesterday called for the prompt release of funds to schools before they re-open for the second term next week.

Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) chairman Kahi Indimuli said  schools need money to run smoothly.

“We need money. We are asking the government to release funds because if they do not, schools will continue suffering,” said Indimuli, who was speaking in Nairobi during the World Teachers Day celebrations.

He observed that many parents had taken advantage of the directive by the Ministry of Education that learners with fees arrears should not be send home, to avoid paying fees.

He urged the government to continue encouraging parents to pay fees, despite the many difficulties they are facing.

“We are also parents and we know that Covid-19 has interfered with the financial flow but the schools must run.

It is pointless to send children to school and you don’t pay fees but expect the schools to run normally,” Indimuli said.
