Ready? All set for Lewa marathon

By , March 15, 2023

Organisers of the 24th edition of the Lewa Safari Marathon have promised a bigger and better event themed “Ditch the Desk”.

Hundreds of participants are expected to grace the occasion with the registration scheduled to open at 8.30 am today.

The annual event has attracted runners of all abilities for almost two and a half decades, from elite professionals like Marathon World Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge to amateur runners and walkers alike. This year, participants are encouraged to connect with nature as they hit the terrain to compete.

Speaking at the sidelines of a cheque presentation by Safaricom and Huawei, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy CEO Mike Watson said; “As we face unprecedented threats to our planet, it is essential that we take action to protect our wildlife and their habitats.

Watson added: “Lewa Safari Marathon is not only an opportunity to challenge yourself and connect with nature but is also a way to make a positive impact on the communities and wildlife of northern Kenya and beyond. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to disconnect from our screens and connect with nature on June 24, in Kenya’s most spectacular wildlife conservancy. A couple of local and international elites are envisaged to take part in the event that will feature the 10, 21 and 42 kilometres as well as Corporate Run Categories.

This year, the Organizers who ran a virtual race two years ago will only focus on the physical competition but with lean numbers to avoid logistical and ecological challenges in the world-renowned facility.

Entry fees for 21 km and 42 km are Sh 20,000 with a target of half a million dollars in the collection this year. There will also be a special discount on the Corporate Run.

Voted as one of the top ten races for any outdoors lover given its exciting variances, Lewa Marathon is expected to be the ultimate Runner’s dream.
