Rare white giraffes in Garissa County killed

The rare white giraffes in Ilshaqbini Hirola Sanctuary in Garissa County are dead.

According to Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) said the dazzling giraffe and her calf were killed by armed poachers.

It was alleged the giraffes were killed for game meat with some claiming it was killed over conservancy funds row.

The rare giraffes were sighted in 2017, the possess a rare skin condition known as leucism.

According to The Guardian, reticulated giraffes are listed as “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with an estimated 8,500 individuals in the wild. They live in Somalia, southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya
