Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called on the government to reduce the cost of fuel in the next review citing that global fuel prices have sharply decreased.

Speaking at Merrueshi village, Kajiado East, where he attended the area Member of Parliament, Kakuta Maimai’s homecoming, Raila, who slammed the Ruto-led government, terming it insensitive, said the high cost of living and taxes are taking a toll on Kenyans.

“Let the government reduce fuel by up to Ksh50. The global prices have reduced, and there is no excuse whatsoever why Kenyans should continue paying the high prices. That is unacceptable,” Raila said.

The opposition chief also condemned the government for how it has handled this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations, saying it is a crisis that compromises the future of learners.

“The education system is in crisis. Innocent children deserve fairness and transparency in the manner in which they are graded,” he said.

Raila termed the Ruto government a hub of unfulfilled promises and actions that negatively affect Kenyans.

“The pain of Kenyans struggling to bear the high cost of living has been worsened by continued lies and unfulfilled promises. Kenyans expectations of a better life are darker because of bad leadership,” he added.

He also rallied the Maa community to detest selling land and instead fight to reclaim the land they had lost through historical injustices.

Raila also popularized the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, urging the Maa community to remain loyal to the party and recruit more members.

Oparanya, Ole Lenku sentiments

ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya rallied elected leaders to remain loyal to the party and detest being compromised to ignore the plight of Kenyans.

“Kenyans’ well-being and plight are paramount and should surpass the interests of any elected leaders. It is selfish for certain leaders to accept petty bribes and support policies and leaders who oppress Kenyans,” said Oparanya.

Meanwhile, Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku reaffirmed his support for Raila, saying he enjoys close ties and mutual working relationships that serve the interests of Kenyans.

“My clarion call is the interest and well-being of Kajiado people,” Ole Lenku said.

Kakuta, who was elected on an ODM ticket, expressed gratitude to the party, saying it conducted free and fair elections and urging other political parties to emulate the same.

“I am here to appreciate all my supporters and my party. As I declared before, I am an MP for all Kajiado East constituents, not those who voted for me. My focus is development for all, as I have demonstrated in the past year in office,” the MP said.

The minority leader in the national assembly, Opiyo Wandayi, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, Kajiado South MP Samuel Parashina, and a host of other leaders were also present.

The colourful event, characterized by pomp, colour, song, and an eatery, was attended by hundreds of Kajiado residents across the county.
