Raila: Report holds key to transform nation’s economy

By , December 3, 2020

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga yesterday affirmed commitment to continue drumming up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying it holds the key to transforming the country.

Raila said the report seeks to improve the lives of Kenyans, contrary to reports that it was a political tool to create positions for certain leaders in 2022.

“BBI is not about 2022 as some people have been claiming. It shall lay a foundation for a better future for our country,” he said.

Speaking during a tour of Kigumo in Murang’a county, the Former Prime minister said the constitutional changes to be made shall facilitate social, economic and political transformation.

He said the report seeks to strike a balance in all the sectors to ensure it caters for the interests of every Kenyan.

He further said that once implemented, Kenyans shall enjoy better service delivery at the county level, because  more money will be channeled to devolved units.

“For the past eight years devolution has never been successful due to limited resources, however, all this is going to change,” he said.

“Increased money to the counties will see a lot of development projects being implemented. That is what we want,” he added.

The ODM boss also explained that the BBI the report shall be a unifying factor, seeking to unite Kenyans and bring to an end tribalism and ethnicity.

He, however, challenged political  leaders to put aside their selfishness and focus on serving the people.

He said some leaders have been focusing on amassing wealth through corruption while forgetting to serve the people who elected them.

“Some leaders engage in corrupt deals and squander public funds ,which is very wrong,” he said.

He was accompanied by Kigumo MP Wangari Mwaniki, who also appealed to leaders to unite and support BBI report.
