Raila reacts to video showing àrmed men being ferried in ambulance after he warned about it
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya leader Raila Odinga has reacted to a video that captured an ambulance ferrying armed men.
The video captured armed men in plain clothes disembarking from an ambulance who then went on to fire at protesters before they got back in the vehicle and sped off.
Raila suggested he had been vindicated after warning earlier that vehicles camouflaged as St Mary’s ambulance would be used to ferry men who would be used to cause mayhem at Azimio protests.
“In my statement yesterday I mentioned this particular vehicle camouflaged as St Mary’s Ambulance. They weren’t holding medical equipment today were they?” Raila tweeted.

Raila’s warning
The Azimio leader on Sunday March 26, 2023, claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was planning to cause mayhem during the coalition’s protests on Monday, March 27, 2023.
In a statement, Raila said the DP had set up an armoury and command centres in two different locations
“It has come to our attention that Mr. Rigathi Gachagua is currently coordinating a major operation of mayhem against planned Azimio la Umoja protest rallies scheduled to take place in Nairobi tomorrow.
“To realize his evil and bloody plans against otherwise peaceful protesters, Mr. Gachagua has set up an armoury and command centres in two different locations at a house next to the Somas of Kenya that belongs to a former Cabinet Secretary and another on Hillcrest Drive, Nairobi, belonging to a serving Cabinet Secretary,” Raila said.
He said the two homes were being stocked with weapons and the vehicles carrying them had been camouflaged as ambulances.
“These two homes are currently being stocked with all sorts of modern and crude weapons including guns, pangas and machetes for the said operation.
“These weapons are being ferried to the venue in a vehicle camouflaged as St. Mary’s Ambulance. Some of the vehicles deployed for this operation are KBQ 721J, KAZ 432F and KBM 771Z, among others,” he stated.
He added: “The same crude weapons and forces’ uniforms are being dispatched to upcountry locations in western and Nyanza, where youths have been booked in hotels with instructions to target specific Azimio leaders.
“A number of rebel Azimio MPs from these regions have been deployed in support of this dirty mission especially in western Kenya and Nyanza.”
At the same time, the Azimio leader said public service vehicles had been deployed to carry youths to different places in Nairobi with the intention to harm four coalition’s leaders.
“In Nairobi, public service vehicles belonging to Embassava, Zuri and Forward Sacco’s have been deployed to ferry youths to places like logo Road, Kibra, Pandora, Hyrum, Muthurwa, Kayole, Kariobangi, Korogocho, Mlango Kubwa, Githurai 44 and Githuri 45.
“Their mission is to target Azimio leaders in Nairobi including Hon. Babu Owini, Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, and Hon. Edwin Sifuna and Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, among others. When this planned mayhem comes to pass, Mr. Gachagua must be prepared to take full responsibility for it,” he added.
