Raila Odinga Junior, the son of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has announced the final resting place of his late aunt, Beryl Lilian Achieng Mungwari Odinga.

Raila Jr. posted on his X account, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, that, with the blessing of his uncle, Senator Oburu Oginga, they had chosen Kang’o Ka Jaramogi as her burial site. He said further funeral arrangements would be shared in due course.

“With the blessings of my uncle Dr Oburu, we sat down with Jakawuor today to choose the final resting place for my late aunt, Ms. Beryl Lilian Achieng Mungwari Odinga, at Kango Kajaramogi. Further funeral arrangements and details will be shared in due course,” he posted.

Beryl Achieng Odinga, a daughter of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

The passing of Beryl comes just weeks after the death of her brother, Raila Odinga, who died on October 15, 2025 in Kochi, India. Raila’s funeral was held on 19 October at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the same location where Beryl will now be laid to rest. The back-to-back losses have been a heavy blow for the Odinga family.

Life of public service

Beryl Achieng Odinga led a life away from the political limelight that has defined much of the Odinga family. She earned respect for her professional work and public service. In Zimbabwe, she became the first Black Town Clerk of Mutare, the country’s third-largest city.

Later, she returned to Kenya, where she held several leadership positions, including Chairperson of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company in 2020. Colleagues described her as committed, discreet, and firm in her work.

The family’s preparations for Beryl’s burial were aided by Senator Oburu Oginga, who returned from a brief sabbatical in Dubai on Thursday, November 28, 2025. Oburu immediately proceeded to Lee Funeral Home to view Beryl’s body. Party members accompanied him from the airport amid a solemn atmosphere within the Orange Democratic Movement.

Oburu had announced earlier that he was taking a short break in Dubai for rest and reflection after the demanding period following Raila Odinga’s death and the party’s 20th-anniversary celebrations. His return allowed him to participate in the funeral arrangements for his sister, marking yet another moment of grief for the family.
