Members of the public have until Monday June 25 to submit their views on four bills currently under scrutiny by the National Assembly
Clerk of the National Assembly Samuel Njoroge told members of the public to submit memoranda to his office as per the provisions of the standing orders and the constitution. Njoroge said the bills were read for the first time on June 6 and thereafter referred to the relevant departmental committees for consideration.
The four bills include the Privatisation Bill, Conflict of Interest Bill, Regional Development Authority Bill and the Food and Feed Safety Control Coordination Bill.
“In compliance with article 118(1) (b) of the constitution and standing order 127 (3) the clerk of the National Assembly hereby invites the public and stakeholder to submit memoranda on the bills to the respective departmental committee. The memoranda may be forwarded to the clerk of the National Assembly or hand delivered to the office of the clerk on or before Monday 26 June 2023 at 5 pm,” said the clerk.
The Regional Development Authorities bill sponsored by Sigor MP Peter Lochakapong seeks to consolidate laws relating to regional development and to provide for the establishment, powers and functions of six desisting regional development bodies. “The bill seeks to standardise the functions of regional development authorities subject to the unique areas of operation of each regional development authority and also standardise the membership of the boards of each regional development authority to 11 members in line with best practices in corporate governance,” it reads.
