PSs pay solidarity visit to Oburu over death of Raila and Beryl
By Mustafa Juma, January 8, 2026A delegation of senior government officials on Thursday, January 8, 2026, paid a courtesy call on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader Oburu Odinga at his Nairobi office in a show of solidarity with the Odinga family following the recent deaths of Raila Odinga and his sister Beryl Achieng.
ODM in a statement shared via X said the delegation, composed of several Principal Secretaries, also joined the family in commemorating Raila’s 81st birthday.
The PSs conveyed their condolences and shared words of comfort with Oburu, while acknowledging the historical role played by the Odinga family in Kenya’s political and democratic journey.
“This morning, a delegation of Principal Secretaries paid a courtesy call on Hon. Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga, EGH, MP, the ODM Party Leader, to express solidarity with the Odinga family following the recent demise of Baba Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, CGH, and Beryl Odinga. The delegation also joined the family in commemorating Baba’s 81st birthday,” ODM stated.

Oburu’s counsel
ODM says Oburu thanked the delegation for the gesture, describing it as a sign of compassion and respect at a difficult moment for the family.
He used the occasion to offer counsel to the senior civil servants, urging them to remain focused on diligence, professionalism, and the delivery of tangible results in the execution of their mandates.
“Hon. Dr. Oburu Odinga thanked the Principal Secretaries for the gesture and offered counsel on the importance of diligence, performance, and delivery of results in the execution of their respective mandates,” ODM wrote on X.

PSs present
Those present at the meeting included Dr Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Health; Judy Pareno, Principal Secretary for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs; and Stephen Isaboke, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications.
Others were Carren Agengo, Principal Secretary for Children Services; Dr Caroline Karugu, Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs; and Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for Science, Research, and Innovation.
Also in attendance were Cyrell Odede, Principal Secretary for Public Investment; Aden Millah, Principal Secretary for Maritime Affairs; Michael Lenasalon, Principal Secretary for Devolution; Dr Bonface Makokha, Principal Secretary for Economic Planning; and Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary for Trade.
