PS Raymond Omollo breaks silence on Senator Osotsi’s Kisumu attack

By , April 10, 2026

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo has called on political leaders to exercise restraint and promote peaceful engagement, warning that rising cases of violence threaten Kenya’s democratic environment as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Friday, April 10, 2026, Omollo addressed the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi and wished him a quick recovery while stressing that political leaders must take responsibility for the actions of their supporters.

“It is very unfortunate what happened to Osotsi, and I would like to wish him well, but the point is, everyone or any leader who uses goons for criminal purposes must be held accountable,” he said.

Concerns over political violence

Omollo said the growing trend of violence during political engagements is undermining democratic discourse in the country.

“The use of violence has increasingly come to define our political engagement, a development that threatens the core of our democratic discourse,” he stated.

He stated that the government is taking measures to address the situation and maintain order across the country. “The Government is taking firm and deliberate measures to curb this trend and restore order,” he added.

The principal secretary urged political leaders and their supporters to avoid confrontational approaches and instead promote peaceful participation in public affairs.

“We urge political leaders to abandon divisive and confrontational approaches and instead embrace responsible and peaceful engagement,” he said.

Call to protect youth from political violence

Omollo also cautioned leaders against mobilising young people to participate in violent activities during political events. He said such actions place youth at risk and undermine their prospects.

“We further caution against the mobilisation of youth for acts of violence and call for their redirection towards meaningful and constructive opportunities that safeguard their future and the stability of the nation,” he said.

Murkomen’s sentiments

PS Omollo’s statement came after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to crack down on goons and leaders sponsoring them.

While condemning the attack on Senator Osotsi, Murkomen absolved his ministry from the incident while asking the opposition leaders to also come clean and support government efforts aimed at dismantling the goons’ menace in the country.

“I have seen some opposition figures mentioning my PS during a press conference. I challenge them to come out openly and denounce the violence, goons and gangs they are walking around with them,” Murkomen stated.

“I want to ask the IG Kanja to move with speed and arrest all those boys being used in the functions so that then it will become a proper example that they believe in this issue of fighting gangs,” Murkomen ordered.
