PS Omollo mourns death of Seme MP’s father
By Faith Lagat, April 12, 2026Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has joined leaders in mourning the death of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father of Seme Member of Parliament James Nyikal.
In a message posted on X on Sunday, April 12, 2026, Omollo described the late Mzee as a respected elder whose life was well lived.
“My sincere condolences on the passing of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, beloved father to Hon. Dr. James Nyikal (Seme MP) and a respected elder whose life was well lived and whose memory will remain a blessing. May God grant Hon. Dr. Nyikal and the entire Nyikal family strength, comfort and peace. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Omollo wrote.
The death was first announced on Saturday, April 11, 2026, by MP Nyikal in a Facebook post, where he said, “My Father has gone to be with the lord. A life well celebrated.”
Family announcement and community response
The family has not yet released details on the cause of death or funeral arrangements, saying they are still observing privacy during the mourning period.
Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o expressed sorrow over the passing of Mzee Nyikal Okaka, describing him as a respected community elder committed to education and grassroots development.
Nyong’o noted that the deceased’s contribution to youth development and community service left a lasting impact, and extended condolences to the Nyikal family and residents of Seme Constituency.
Leaders pay tribute across political divide
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also sent his condolences, saying, “I have received the sad news of the passing of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father of my colleague James Wambura Nyikal. I send my condolences to Hon. Nyikal, his family, and the people of Seme during this period of grief and sorrow. May Mzee rest in eternal peace,” he posted on X.
Other leaders and residents have continued to share messages of sympathy across social media, reflecting the respect Mzee Nyikal commanded within the community.
Nyikal, a medical doctor turned legislator, serves as the Member of Parliament for Seme Constituency, where he sits on parliamentary committees focused on health and education.
The family has requested privacy as preparations for burial arrangements continue.
