PS Omollo: Govt committed to ensuring security in all CHAN games
As the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) continues to unfold on Kenyan soil, the government has reiterated its full commitment to ensuring a secure environment throughout the tournament.
Speaking after a high-level post-match debrief meeting at Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Raymond Omollo assured Kenyans and international guests that robust measures have been put in place to guarantee safety during the ongoing showpiece.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, and CAF Head of Competitions Division Nassar Khaled.
“With colleague PS Elijah Mwangi (Sports), FKF President Hussein Mohammed and the CAF Head of Competitions Division, Nassar Khaled, we held a post-match debrief meeting at Kasarani Stadium to assess and fine-tune security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing CHAN 2024 tournament,” Omollo said in a statement.
Collaboration
The Interior PS emphasised that the government is working in close collaboration with various agencies to provide a secure atmosphere for players, officials, and fans alike. He noted that the success of the tournament thus far is a testament to Kenya’s readiness to host high-level sporting events.
“We remain committed to ensuring that all matches are hosted in a safe, secure and well-coordinated environment,” he said.
The CHAN tournament, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), is reserved for players who compete in their national domestic leagues. Hosting the 2024 edition is a major milestone for Kenya, and authorities are keen on using the platform to showcase the country’s organisational capacity and hospitality.
Omollo praised the work of the security and logistical teams, commending their professionalism in delivering a seamless experience for teams and fans.

“The seamless execution of such international events reaffirms our national preparedness and the professionalism of our multi-agency teams,” he added.
Security has remained tight in all host cities, Nairobi, with coordinated efforts between the National Police Service, emergency responders, and tournament officials ensuring uninterrupted matchday experiences.
The government’s proactive stance on safety and logistics continues to boost confidence among visiting delegations and spectators. More CHAN matches will be played in Kenya throughout the month, with the final slated for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
