Protests a threat to tourism, says Ntutu

By , March 28, 2023

Tourists have cancelled their visits or changed destinations because of Azimio protests, Tourism stakeholders in Narok have said.

Narok County Governor Patrick ole Ntutu says tourists had cancelled bookings at several hotels in Maasai Mara National Reserve.

“Narok people depend on Tourism for livelihood and the demonstrations will affect them economically. If the former Prime Minister loves the Maasai Community as he claims, then he should call off the demonstrations because they are affecting the people,” said Ntutu, who is the chairman of the Tourism and Wildlife Committee at the Council of Governors.

He added: “I have a team that is working on a mechanism to counter the bad image painted by the demonstrations,” said Ntutu. The governor spoke three days after Tourism CS Peninah Malonza said a number of foreigners had cancelled hotel bookings due to the demonstrations.
