Probe fires at county finance offices, urge leaders

By , February 17, 2020

Two leaders from Nyanza have called for thorough investigations into the  frequent fire break-outs  in county government finance offices within the region.

Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee chair Moses Kajwang’ and former Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga want the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the cause of the fires and arrest culprits behind them.

The leaders raised concern over the rampant fires in Finance department offices in Kisumu, Migori and Homa Bay counties.

The mysterious infernos destroyed crucial financial documents and property worth millions of shillings.

Speaking at St Joseph’s Combined Academy in Oyugis town, Kajwang’ (Homa Bay senator) alleged that the fires were caused by people whose intentions were to do away with audit queries raised by the Auditor General.

“The incidents should be investigated thoroughly for reality to be established,” said Kajwang’.

“People who burn finance department offices destroy public resources. They should be arrested and charged,” said Magwanga.
