Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi had to cut short his address during a funeral programme in Kesses Constituency after the officiating priest threatened to eject him from the podium for engaging in politics.

The vocal MP apologised to the priest before concluding his speech and exiting the podium.

Sudi had joined mourners to console the family of Mzee David Kiptabut Kogo, a resident of Asururiet Village, Kesses Constituency when the fracas ensued.

"We unaingia siasa, were maliza, hii ni siasa," ( You are getting political now, just conclude because this is politics)," the priest ordered.

"Hapa ni kanisa, sio siasa, tuonyeshe vile unajua mambo ya kiroho, sio siasa," the priest added ( We are in a spiritual setting, tell us how much you know in this topic without getting political)

Sudi pleaded with the man of the cloth, stating that he had demonstrated to him how much of a religious person he was in several instances but still exited the podium.

Sudi's address

Sudi had earlier engaged in the discussion involving the contentious Finance Bill 2024, in which several regions of the country witnessed protests over some of the clauses in the bill.

The vocal legislator chided the protesting youth, saying they were ignorant of the law-making process.

Sudi also noted that some of the protesting youth had a lot to gain from the same bill they were protesting against, in terms of more education loans and the creation of local jobs.

Finance bill 2024

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Parliament passed the bill to proceed to the next phase of debates after 204 MPs voted in favour of the bill against 115 others opposing it.

The Thursday Finance Bill 2024 demonstration took a tragic turn after a protestor was shot dead in Nairobi.

Several other protestors were injured, with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) officials placing the number of injuries at 300.

Activists have vowed to continue with the protests on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, when Parliament resumes debate on the controversial Finance Bill 2024.
