President William Ruto has underscored the key achievements Kenya and the United States have made due to their close relationship.

The Head of State made the comment after meeting the US Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at State House, Nairobi.

“Kenya and the United States have long historical ties that have expanded into our common democratic tradition, peace and security in Eastern Africa, the fight against terrorism, and people-to-people relations,” Ruto noted in a post on his X handle.

The meeting comes after Ruto had a similar visit by US Senator John Cornyn at the State House on Monday, August 5, 2024.

“Our two countries are working closely on regional peace and security, and the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act. We are also negotiating a strategic trade and investment partnership,” the president said after hosting Senator Cornyn.

Kenya and the US also have partnerships in regard to health, especially in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Other areas are education, refugee crises, diplomatic exchange programs, sharing of climate solutions, humanitarian and disaster response, and business and trade investments between the two countries.

The Kenya-US relations were also acknowledged by President Joe Biden, who hailed the partnership that he said has impacted the broader global community.

“Decades of collaboration between the United States and Kenya in the health sector have resulted in tremendous improvements in health not only for millions of our citizens but also for the broader global community,” Biden said during the May 2024 visit by Ruto to the United States.
