President Ruto to meet Kenyans in Japan during visit

President William Ruto will on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, engage a section of Kenyans in Japan, the government has announced.

According to a notice shared by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, the president will engage Kenyan citizens in Japan at The Okura from 7 pm.

“Kenyans in Japan, come and engage with our President @WilliamsRuto at The Okura, Tokyo tomorrow Wednesday, 7th February from 7 pm,” the notice read in parts.

The Head of State jetted out of the country on Monday night for a state visit to Japan.

His visit to the Asian country marked the first by a Kenyan president since the late President Mwai Kibaki’s visit 20 years ago.

“The visit follows Prime Minister Fumio Kushida’s State visit to Kenya in May 2023 and celebrates 60 years of diplomatic relations between Kenya and Japan,” State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed announced.

During his visit, Ruto will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Kushida, with a focus on economic cooperation in key sectors such as health, ICT, infrastructure, energy and financial services.

“Consequently, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed, covering defence cooperation, public-private partnerships on road construction, and the KEMRI Laboratory Expansion Project,” Mohammed added.

“President Ruto and Prime Minister Kushida will also address multilateral issues of mutual interest, including the reform of the United Nations Security Council and climate change.”

The president will also meet the Japan-Africa Parliamentary Association.
