Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Boya Molu could return to the public limelight following his nomination to serve as a member of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

In a statement on Friday, December 20, 2024, shared by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, President William Ruto nominated Molu, who exited IEBC following the end of his tenure in January 2023.

Molu left alongside the former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and Abdi Guliye.

In the statement, Ruto nominated Mary Wanjira Kimonye as the new vice-chairperson of the Public Service Commission. Kimonye previously served as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Public Service under former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

She was among the nine candidates shortlisted for the PSC vice-chair post in November 2024.

Other nominees

Kimonye was nominated alongside six others who will serve as commission members. They include the former IEBC commissioner Molu, Harun Maalim Hassan, Irene Cherotich Asienga, Francis Otieno Owino, Joan Andisi Machayo, and Francis Meja.

In the statement shared by both Koskei and State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, their nomination is in anticipation of the vacancies in the vice-chairperson and member posts expected to occur in mid-January 2025, with an additional vacancy anticipated in April 2025.

“The Head of State and Government has formally transmitted to Parliament the names of the nominees… for consideration and subsequent appointment,” the statement read in part.

The nominated individuals will face the National Assembly for vetting after members of parliament resume their sittings after their long recess.

After vetting, the MPs will present a report recommending or rejecting their nomination to serve in the Public Service Commission.
