The Speaker of the National Assembly the Rt. Hon. (Sen.) Moses Masika Wetang’ula has today hosted a delegation from the Political Party’s Liaison Committee.

The delegation led by the Chairman of Progressive Party of Kenya (PPOK), Mr. Evans Misati sought to establish a sound working relationship between Parliament and Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC).
While congratulating the Speaker on his election to preside over the National Assembly, the delegation called upon his support on legislations that seek to streamline the election processes in Kenya.
“Speaker, we congratulate you on your election to the top seat of the House and looking forward to working with you on various legislative matters geared towards strengthening our democracy”, said Mr. Misati.
The Speaker welcomed the delegation and assured them of his support towards achieving their mission.
He committed to facilitate their access to relevant committees of the House including JLAC, CIOC and Budget Committees for purposes of fast tracking legislations of concern to PPLC.
Cognizant of the current IEBC status, the Speaker pledged to work with PPLC, registrar of political parties and ensure that they are included in the process of restructuring the commission.
“I am aware that two IEBC commissioners are retiring and the process of hiring should be in the offing. I will endeavor to ensure that you are facilitated to participate in this important activity as we think through the electoral process of country,”said Speaker Wetang’ula.
The Speaker appreciated the role played by PPLC in following up constitutional instruments of the elections process of Kenya.
The Political Parties Act, 2011 Sec (38) establishes Political Parties Liaison Committee at the National and County Level. The principal function of the Political Parties Liaison Committee is to provide a platform for dialogue between the Registrar, Electoral Commission and political parties.
Present in the meeting included Christopher Kilonzo, Umoja na Maendeleo Party, DEP. Chairperson, Taabu O.W. Daniels, NARC Kenya, Secretary General, Gerry Owiti, Alternative Leadership Party of Kenya, Treasurer, Cinderella Nekesa, Entrust Pioneer Party, Dep. Treasurer, Andrew Njoroge, ThirdWay Alliance, Organising Secretary, Joel Ruhu, Ford Kenya, Chairman of I & E Sub-Committee, Evans Kipkoech, Democratic Congress, Secretary, I&E Sub-Committee, Benedict Wachira, Communist Party of Kenya, Member I &E, Amisi Omukanda, Maendeleo Development Party, Member I & E, the National Organizing Secretary Mr. Chris Mandu Mandu and the Chief of Staff Speaker’s Office Mr. Steve Apopo.
