Police seize 1,600 litres of Kangara after crackdown in Bangladesh

The National Police Officers have intensified a crackdown on illegal alcohol, intercepting at least 1600 litres of Kangara in the Bangladesh area of Mombasa County.

In a statement by the National Police Service on X on Friday, February 13, 2026, the officers confirmed that a multi-agency security team dismantled the illicit brew den.

“Yesterday, a multi-agency security team dismantled an illicit brew den in the Bangladesh area, within Jomvu Sub-County,” NPS said.

According to the officers, the team confiscated 88 twenty-litre jerrycans containing a total of 1,600 litres of Kangara.

The police further noted that the exhibits were swiftly moved to the police station.

“The team destroyed several distilling apparatuses and confiscated 88 twenty-litre jerrycans containing a total of 1,600 litres of kangara. The exhibits have been securely kept at the station,” NPS added.

The police have called on members of the public to take part in the fight against illicit brew, encouraging netizens to continue supporting the initiative by reporting individuals engaged in such illegal activities to the nearest police station.

Crackdown intensifies in Nanyuki

The Mombasa incident followed days after police in the Majengo area in Nanyuki town arrested one person of interest and recovered 400 litres of suspected chang’aa, stored in 20 yellow plastic containers. During the raid, police also arrested 150 packets of assorted, uncustomised cigarettes that were counterfeit.

Taking it to their X handle on Monday, February 9, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) has said that the crackdown on illicit alcohol and narcotics has intensified, leading to the arrest of the person of interest.

“During the raid, the team arrested one suspect and recovered 400 litres of suspected chang’aa, stored in 20 yellow plastic containers. Additionally, 150 packets of assorted, uncustomised Super Match cigarettes were seized,” NPS stated.

At the time, the police said that police officers from Nanyuki Police Station, under the command of the Sub-County Police Commander, conducted a targeted operation against illicit alcohol in the Majengo area and its environs within Laikipia East Sub-County, leading to the arrest.
