Police recovers 204 stolen cattle in Meru after fierce clash with rustlers

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, NPS said the recovery comes amid rising concerns over livestock theft, which has long threatened the livelihoods of pastoralist communities in the region.
“Officers from the National Police Service in Tigania East Sub-County, Meru County, yesterday successfully recovered 204 head of cattle that had been stolen during a night raid in the area,” the National Police Service stated.
The NPS said the recovery followed a swift response and coordinated pursuit, with security teams tracking the stolen animals to the Madoadoa area along the Isiolo-Gambela Road. The operation saw officers confront the rustlers in a tense encounter, ultimately regaining control of the livestock.
“The security team tracked the stolen animals to the Madoadoa area, along the Isiolo-Gambela Road, where they encountered and overwhelmed the cattle rustlers after a fierce exchange of fire,” the statement added.
All recovered cattle were secured and returned to their rightful owners, offering a welcome boost to families who had lost significant sources of income and sustenance. For many residents, the incident underlines the importance of community cooperation and vigilance in safeguarding their herds.
“All the recovered animals were secured and handed back to their rightful owners,” NPS confirmed.
The police said they are committed to sustaining efforts against livestock theft, which has continued to affect many pastoral communities across the country.
