“Building on the sustained security operations aimed at tackling cattle rustling and banditry within Laikipia County and its environs, a coordinated multi-agency team conducted a targeted operation yesterday in Mukogodo Forest,” NPS said.

According to NPS, the patrol covered the areas of Arjijo, Anandangu’ro, and Lokosero, which have previously been identified as hotspots for banditry and livestock theft, and successfully recovered one hundred and one (101) stolen head of cattle.

At the same time, the officers confirmed that all recovered cattle were safely escorted to a police station, where they are currently being held pending proper identification and verification before being handed over to their rightful owners.

“This recovery underscores the steady progress being made to curb criminal activities and dismantle the networks responsible for insecurity in the region through sustained multi-agency operations, increased surveillance, and community cooperation,” NPS explained.

The National Police Service has announced that it remains committed to maintaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring that affected communities regain confidence and are assured of the security of their property.

Meru banditry

The Laikipia recovery comes two days after a coordinated security operation led to the successful recovery of 77 stolen cattle in Meru County.

The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement issued on the night of Saturday, April 11, 2026, described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against stock theft.

According to the NPS, the operation was launched following a tip-off from members of the public who reported that a large herd of stolen cows was being driven toward the Kachiuru area by suspected bandits.

“A coordinated multi-agency response, supported by actionable information from the public, has culminated in the successful recovery of stolen livestock in Meru County,” NPS stated.

“Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) received a report indicating that seventy-seven (77) cows had been stolen by suspected bandits and were being driven towards the Kachiuru area.”
