Police in Busia County are investigating an incident where three men were found taking refuge in a house while in possession of firearms.
The firearms are suspected to have been robbed from two security officers who were escorting KCSE examination papers to a school in Siaya.
The trio was putting up in a secluded house at Namalo village in Ruambwa Sub-Location of Bunyala Sub-County whose owner reportedly stays away in Kisumu County.
Security officers at the Port Victoria Police Station said they were alerted about the presence of the strangers by Ruambwa Assistant Chief Augustine Swati.
Suspected militias
“It was reported by Ruambwa Sub-Location area assistant chief Mr. Augustine Swati that suspected militias had been spotted in a homestead in Namalo area belonging to one Mr. Remjus Ojiambo aged 69,” said a report from the station.
“It happened that today 20/11/2023 at about 17:00 hours, one Mr. Nyende, a neighbour to Mr. Remjus Ojiambo was grazing his cows when he saw some three strange men, one of them of Somali decent, in an isolated house belonging to Mr. Remjus.
The three are reported to have eventually escaped from the scene and made their way towards Wanga hills leaving behind an ‘Arafat’ scarf, a maroon T-shirt and a note titled “Naam Assalam Walaikum Ikhwan Fi LLAH”.
Police said the area had been cordoned off in search of the said firearms which are strongly believed to have been robbed from the two police officers in the neighbouring Siaya County on Monday morning.
The two were escorting KCSE examination papers to Mahero Mixed Secondary School when they were accosted by thugs who robbed them of their guns, killed one and injured the other.
