A police officer was arrested for defiling a 16-year-old girl who had gone to report a matter at Kware Police Station in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The victim had on January 18 gone to the station to report that her employer, identified as Jackie Pendo, had refused to pay her salary.
She was told by the officer to go back the following day so that she could be assisted.
When she did so, she found the officer in uniform but he instead took her to his house and locked her inside.
He then went to the house after duty and defiled her overnight.
“The officer left his place of work and took her to his residence located outside the station. He locked her inside and went back to his place of duty,” the police commander said.
Police said the victim was examined and treated at Nairobi Women’s Hospital.
On December 19, another police officer was arrested for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl in Marereni, Kilifi county.
The suspect was arrested by police officers attached to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU) following investigations.
The offence was committed on diverse dates in September 2021.
In a related case on December 5 last year, a 50-year old police officer was arrested for defiling a girl, 16, who had been detained at Sakutiek police station in Narok county.
The victim had been arrested alongside a boy, 17, on defilement related charges and were also deemed to be children in need of care and protection.
The officer, however, took advantage and removed the girl from the cells and took her to his house where he defiled her overnight.
Narok police commander Kizito Mutoro said the officer returned the girl to the cells early in the morning.
The girl, however, later disclosed her ordeal to a female officer during inspection.
Last month, another officer was also arrested at Kapenguria for defiling a 17-year-old schoolgirl.
West Pokot sub-county police commander Kipkemboi Kirui said the officer identified as Corporal James Njuguna was arrested after they got a tip that the officer had locked a schoolgirl inside his house at Keringet Police Station.
In yet another case, a Police Constable attached to Kiganjo Police College in Nyeri was in September arrested and charged in court for defiling a two-and-half-year old child belonging to his colleague.
The suspect who was a driver at the college was arrested after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommended that he be charged.
“The Police Constable was arrested following an inquiry file 3/2022 opened on defilement incident report. The offence was committed on May 11, 2022,” police report seen by People Daily read.
