A police officer, who shot dead a bodaboda rider at Mama Lucy Hospital, has been detained.
The court ruled he be detained for six days to allow investigations into the matter.
Bodaboda riders on Tuesday staged a protest outside Mama Lucy Hospital Nairobi after the police officer killed their colleague.
The irate riders claimed that the police shot the deceased shortly after he dropped a patient at the facility.
Police engaged in running battles with the angry riders who wanted to break into the hospital.
The victim identified as Daniel Mburu had taken a child to the hospital who was rescued from drowning at Korogocho slums.
When ordered to stop at the gate, the operator defied and made his way to the admission’s desk but left the bike at the entrance.
According to a witness, one of the officers manning the gate alerted his colleagues inside that a thief had made his way in.
“Mburu disagreed with the police manning the gate and they called him after he had dropped the child at the hospital, The took him to a room and there were gunshots,” said a witness.
Another witness said that Mburu refused to pay Sh50 as parking fee for the motorbike.
A scuffle ensued between Mburu and the guards which made the police kill him, the source said.
The authorities have since moved Mburu’s body to City Mortuary. Nairobi police boss Phillip Ndolo said investigations into the matter had commenced.
