Police nab Toyota SUV stuffed with bhang in Malindi
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed that Malindi Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) detectives, working alongside the Special Operations Group (SOG) based at Sabaki Bridge, have seized a Toyota SUV packed to the brim with cannabis.
According to the statement released by the DCI on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, officers acting on crucial leads about a vehicle ferrying the illicit cargo launched an operation flagging down a silver Toyota Vanguard, registration KCK 810C, for inspection at the Gede area, where the discovery was made.
However, DCI said the driver escaped instead of complying with the orders of the law enforcers, swerving off towards Jacaranda Road from Kijiwetanga Junction in a desperate bid to flee, but the vehicle was finaly seized after the chase.

”A pursuit of the vehicle was launched, and hours later, the SUV was discovered abandoned in the Mayungu area; its plates had been hastily swapped to KCJ 752Z in a futile attempt to outsmart investigators. But the disguise didn’t hold. A peep inside the vehicle, officers uncovered that the SUV is crammed to the roof with 12 bulging sacks of bhang, a consignment worth millions, destined for the streets,” the DCI statement said in part. As of Wednesday, September 23, 2025, the vehicle and the narcotics were secured at Malindi Police Station as exhibits, as the trail closed in on the elusive driver.
Suspected bhang seized in Nyandarua
This happens after the police also detained two occupants of a private vehicle after it was found loaded with sacks of what police officers believe was bhang in Nyandarua. In a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the National Police Service indicated that the two persons of interest were detained at the Magumu Police Station.
“Yesterday, police officers intercepted a black Nissan X-Trail, registration number KDN 0**S, along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway at Soko Mjinga. The vehicle, which had two occupants, was found to be transporting several sacks of a dry, green substance suspected to be narcotic drugs,” police said.
“The vehicle was escorted to Magumu Police Station, where, upon a thorough search, officers recovered multiple sacks of the suspected narcotics. The two suspects are in custody, awaiting further police action.”
