Police nab 4 men linked to Kenya Power cables vandalism in Kitui
By Joel Masibo, September 12, 2025Police officers on patrol along the Kamutei–Ndithini–Munguni Road in Ikutha Sub-County, Kitui, have intercepted a Mitsubishi Canter lorry with four persons of interest linked to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) cables vandalism aprrehended.
In a Friday, September 12, 2025 statement, the National Police Service confirmed that upon conducting a search, officers on discovered that the vehicle was loaded with 26 Kenya Power cables and 40 clamps. They also recovered two hacksaws.
”The four suspects were arrested and escorted to Ikutha Police Station, where they were placed in custody pending arraignment in court. The motor vehicle was impounded, and the recovered exhibits were secured as evidence.” The NPS statement said.

This follows another apprehension of three individuals involved in vandalising copper cables near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi in June. Security officers on patrol found ten individuals using crude weapons to dig up and damage the cables. Several of them managed to escape, but three were caught, including a police officer.

The National Police Service (NPS) praised the public for providing crucial information that made the arrests possible. “Today, June 8, 2025, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Nairobi area security team received a tip-off about ongoing vandalism of copper cables along Mombasa Road, near Nyayo Stadium–an area recently affected by similar incidents,” the NPS stated on their official X account on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Sof of electrical equipment belonging to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), often involves the vandalism of infrastructure like underground cables and transformers. These activities cause power outages, pose serious safety risks, including fatal shocks, pollute the air from burning cable casings, and disrupt development and public services.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service reiterates its commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring that individuals engaged in acts of economic sabotage are brought to justice. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
