Police in Eldoret arrest person of interest linked to phone hacking
Police in the Kimumu area of Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County have arrested one person of interest in relation to phone hacking, and assorted electronic devices were also recovered.
Taking to their X account on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the arrest of the person of interest and recovered assorted electronic devices, including phones and laptops.
“Police officers from Eldoret Police Station have arrested a suspected phone hacker and recovered assorted electronic devices during an operation conducted in the Kimumu area, Turbo Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County,” the NPS statement read in part.

“During the operation, officers apprehended the male suspect at his residence. A search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of thirteen assorted mobile phones suspected to be stolen, 5 HP laptops equipped with flashing tools, and flashing software believed to have been used in unlawful activities.” NPS statement added.
Confirming the incident, the national police service also reported that the arrested person of interest has been placed in police custody pending further investigations.
The person now awaits being arraigned in court after police have conducted their investigations. Further, NPS confirmed that all recovered items during the raid were secured as exhibits.
The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to remain steadfast in combating cybercrime and other emerging criminal activities. Members of the public have also been cautioned against the alarming incidences of phone hacking and cyberbullying. PS have warned the public to be keen on cyber extortion by taking necessary measures to secure themselves.
NPS has urged members of the public to safeguard their personal information and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the provided channels of the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) department.

In a report by the Communication Authority of Kenya, over the period October – December 2024, the National KE-CIRT/CC detected over 840 million cyber threat events, where most of these attacks exploited system vulnerabilities. In response to the detected cyber threat events, the National KE-CIRT/CC issued over 11.5 million advisories between October and December 2024, representing a 20.90% increase compared to the advisories issued during the previous period, July – September 2024.
In alignment with the Authority’s 5th Strategic Plan (2023 – 2027), the Authority reported its commitment to continue to support the implementation of cybersecurity measures and best practices, enhance threat detection capabilities, and continue investing in awareness and education programmes to assist in navigating the ever-changing cyber threat landscape.
